Costa Rica has a terrific and inexpensive bus system. You will pay about $1.50 - $2.50 for each hour of travel, depending on the bus company. The major bus companies have seen to it that their buses are clean, comfortable and very contemporary. For longer trips, direct service is available to and from popular destinations like San José, San Isidro del General, Liberia, Jacó and Limon and will get you to your destination within a couple of hours. Local-route buses will remind you of regular city buses, or may even be yellow school buses, yet they are usually very clean and always sufficient for your local trip.
