New Service 3G from ICE
The new 3G Internet and cellular service from ICE is great! After we moved to Costa Rica about 2 years ago in search of the perfect piece of real estate, we quickly discovered that Internet was going to be a problem in most of the areas we liked.
Now Ice has 3G Internet and it works in some very remote location all over the country. I have successfully been able to connect to the Internet at a farm that has no cellular reception on the GSM network, and now we can not only use the phone and Internet from the middle of this farm, but the Internet speeds are fast enough to stream video from Youtube, Megavideo, and even use Skype video calls to the US.
Not all 3G phones are created equal my wife and I got different phones my Nokia 5800 seems to work every where, bur my wives Motorola v3xx works most places. I have found generic cell phones 3G and GSM are all a waste of money, and I would not recommend on to anybody. You get what you pay for and there is a reason the manufacturers of the $300 phones can charge what they do.

If you need a 3G from Ice all you will need is your passport and a current copy of your personaria from a corporation naming you as the president or some kind of power of attorney. If you have never gotten a copy of a personaria you can get one from your attorney or in the registro nacional office with a few Timbre stamps and your corporation number.
After you have gathered the required documents, a 3G phone, and your passport you are ready to get in line at ICE. After you get your new 3G sim card it is best to have the technician at ICE configure the phone for the Internet access for you, but if you chose to do it yourself there a lot of instructions on line for each particular phone. Now that you have the phone you are all set except you might want to use the Internet connection on you personal computer of laptop. Again there are a lot of guides on line ,but you just need to set up a new dial up Internet connection, and the dialing rule for ICE *99# just leave the user name and password blank and you should be all set.
I do like the service from ICE very much, but I would love to see this CAFTA thing actually bring some serious competition to town for ICE. The actual services from the company are great, but the customer service has a long way to go befor I wont dread having to make changes to my service or having to go into an office for service. I hope this article is helpful to someone.
